Pausing or Stopping a Test
Active experiments don’t always need to run continuously until a winner is selected. Bluvia A/B Testing allows you to pause an experiment temporarily or stop it when you’re finished testing.
The important difference is that a paused experiment can be resumed, while a stopped experiment is completed and cannot be restarted.
Pausing a Test
Pausing temporarily stops an active experiment from running.
Use Pause when you need to interrupt an experiment but expect that you may want to continue it later.
You might pause an experiment when:
- You need to make changes to the test.
- There’s an issue with the page or content being tested.
- A website update could interfere with the experiment.
- You temporarily don’t want visitors participating in the test.
A paused experiment remains available and can be resumed when you’re ready to continue testing.
How to Pause a Test
You can pause an active experiment from either the Test Library or the individual test progress page.
From the Test Library
- Navigate to Bluvia A/B Testing ā Test Library.
- Find the active experiment.
- Select Pause beneath the experiment title.
From the Test Progress Page
- Open the active experiment.
- Select Pause.
- The experiment will move to a paused state.
You can find paused experiments using the Paused filter in the Test Library.
Editing an Active Test
Editing an active experiment will automatically pause it.
This prevents the experiment from continuing to run while its configuration is being changed.
After making your changes, review the experiment carefully before resuming it.
Keep in mind that changing an experiment after it has already collected data can affect how you interpret the results. If you’re making a significant change to what is being tested, creating a new experiment may provide a cleaner comparison.
Resuming a Paused Test
A paused experiment can be resumed when you’re ready to continue collecting data.
Before resuming, make sure:

- Any necessary edits have been completed.
- The Control and Variants display correctly.
- Your Conversion Goal is still appropriate.
- The issue that caused you to pause the test has been resolved.
Once resumed, the experiment can continue running.
Stopping a Test
Stopping an experiment ends the test and changes its status to Completed.
Unlike pausing, stopping a test is permanent.
Once an experiment has been stopped, it cannot be resumed.
Use Stop when you’re finished running the experiment and don’t intend to collect additional data.
How to Stop a Test
You can stop an active experiment from either the Test Library or the individual test progress page.
From the Test Library
- Navigate to Bluvia A/B Testing ā Test Library.
- Find the active experiment.
- Select Stop beneath the experiment title.
From the Test Progress Page
- Open the active experiment.
- Open the available test actions.
- Select Stop Test.
- Confirm the action if prompted.
The experiment will be marked as Completed and can no longer be resumed.
Pause vs. Stop
Use Pause when the interruption is temporary.
Use Stop when the experiment is finished.
If you’re unsure whether you’ll need to continue collecting data, Pause is generally the safer option.
What Happens to Your Results?
Pausing or stopping an experiment doesn’t mean you lose the data it has already collected.
You can continue to access the experiment and review the results that were collected while the test was running.
Stopping simply ends further participation and marks the experiment as completed.
