How Can We Help?
Variant Not Showing
If your experiment is Active but you aren’t seeing a Variant, it doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong with the test.
A/B testing distributes visitors between the Control and Variants based on your experiment configuration. Depending on your Traffic Allocation and visitor session, you may continue seeing the Control instead of a Variant.
Use the steps below if a Variant isn’t appearing as expected.
Confirm the Test Is Active
First, confirm that the experiment itself is running.
Navigate to Bluvia A/B Testing ā Test Library and check the experiment’s status.
The test should display as Active.
If the experiment is Draft, Scheduled, Paused, Completed, or Archived, see Test Not Running for additional troubleshooting.
Check Your Traffic Allocation
Traffic Allocation determines how visitors are distributed between the Control and Variants.
For example, if your experiment has:
- Control ā 50%
- Variant A ā 50%
Not every visitor will see Variant A. Some visitors will be assigned to the Control.
If your experiment contains multiple Variants, traffic is distributed across those experiences according to the allocation you’ve configured.
Review your Experiment Settings to confirm that traffic is being allocated to the Variant you’re trying to view.
Your Visitor Assignment May Stay the Same
Bluvia A/B Testing uses cookies to remember which version of an experiment a visitor has been assigned to.
If you’re assigned to the Control, refreshing the page won’t necessarily cause you to see a Variant. Similarly, a visitor assigned to a Variant will continue seeing that Variant during the experiment.
This keeps the experience consistent for each visitor and helps prevent someone from switching between the Control and Variants while a test is running.
If you need to review a specific Variant, use the experiment’s Preview functionality instead of repeatedly refreshing the live page.
Preview the Variant
If you simply want to verify that your Variant looks and functions correctly, use the experiment’s preview functionality rather than repeatedly visiting the live page.
Previewing allows you to review the Variant before or during your experiment without relying on normal traffic allocation to display it.
Check:
- Content and copy
- Images
- Buttons and links
- Styling
- Layout
- Responsive behavior
- Any other elements changed by the experiment
If the Variant appears correctly in Preview but not during a normal website visit, review your Traffic Allocation, Targeting Rules, and Exclusion Rules.
Check Your Targeting Rules
Your experiment may be Active while the current visitor isn’t eligible to participate.
Review the Targeting Rules configured for the experiment.
Depending on your targeting setup, eligibility may be based on factors such as:
- Device
- Audience
- Traffic source
- Location
- Visitor behavior
Make sure the visitor you’re using to check the experiment meets the configured targeting conditions.
Check Your Exclusion Rules
Exclusion Rules may also prevent you from seeing the Variant.
For example, your visit may be excluded if you’re:
- Logged into WordPress.
- A WordPress administrator.
- Using an excluded IP address or range.
- Covered by another configured exclusion rule.
This is particularly important when checking your own experiments while logged into WordPress.
Confirm You’re Viewing the Correct Content
Make sure you’re visiting the page, post, menu, or other content included in the experiment.
If you’re testing a specific page, confirm that the URL you’re visiting is the same content selected when the experiment was created.
For tests involving specific elements, such as a CTA or headline, also confirm that you’re viewing the location where that element appears.
Check for Cache or CDN Issues
If the Variant appears correctly in Preview but isn’t appearing as expected on the live website, caching or your CDN may be serving an older version of the content.
Continue troubleshooting with:
- Cache Issues
- CDN Problems
These guides cover website-level configurations that may affect how experiment Variants are delivered.
Check for JavaScript Conflicts
A plugin, theme, or custom script may interfere with certain experiments or Variant changes.
If your experiment is Active and correctly configured but the Variant doesn’t display or function properly, see JavaScript Conflicts for additional troubleshooting steps.
Still Not Seeing the Variant?
If you’ve confirmed the experiment is Active and reviewed your traffic allocation, targeting, exclusions, content, and website configuration, contact Bluvia A/B Testing Support.
When contacting Support, include:
- The experiment name.
- The test type.
- The URL where the Variant should appear.
- The Variant you’re trying to view.
- Whether the Variant works in Preview.
- A description of what you’re seeing instead.
This information can help the Support team identify whether the issue is related to the experiment configuration or your WordPress environment.
