System Requirements & Compatibility

Bluvia A/B Testing is designed to work with modern WordPress websites, popular browsers, page builders, themes, and common performance tools.
Use this page to check the current requirements and compatibility of Bluvia A/B Testing before installing the plugin.

WordPress Requirements

Bluvia A/B Testing requires:
  • WordPress: 6.0 or later
  • PHP: 8.1 and later
We recommend keeping WordPress, PHP, your theme, and installed plugins up to date whenever possible.
The software requirements are the same for both the free and Premium versions of Bluvia A/B Testing.

Supported Browsers

Bluvia A/B Testing supports most major modern web browsers, including current versions of:
  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Apple Safari
For the best experience, we recommend using a current browser version when managing experiments in the WordPress dashboard.
Visitors do not need to install anything in their browser to participate in an experiment.

Supported WordPress Editors & Page Builders

Bluvia A/B Testing currently integrates with:
For Test Types that support full page or content editing, Bluvia A/B Testing opens the Variant using the appropriate supported editor.
Some Test Types, including Headline, CTA / Button, and Menu tests, are configured directly within Bluvia A/B Testing and do not require a page builder.
See the Integrations documentation for instructions specific to each supported editor.

WordPress Themes

Bluvia A/B Testing is designed to work with standard WordPress themes and should be compatible with most properly developed WordPress themes.
Because themes can include custom templates, scripts, styles, and functionality, we recommend previewing your Variants before launching an experiment.
If an experiment behaves differently from the original page, check for theme-specific JavaScript or styling conflicts.

Custom Post Types

Bluvia A/B Testing supports experiments involving custom post types through the Custom Post Test Test Type.
The editing experience can depend on how the custom post type is configured and which WordPress editor or plugin is used to manage it.

WordPress Patterns

Bluvia A/B Testing supports reusable WordPress block patterns through the WordPress Pattern Test Test Type.
This allows you to compare different versions of reusable block-based sections and layouts.

WordPress Widgets

Bluvia A/B Testing currently supports WordPress widgets through the Widget Test Test Type.
Support currently applies to WordPress widgets. Additional types of global widgets may be supported in the future.

Caching & Optimization Plugins

Bluvia A/B Testing is designed to work with major WordPress caching and optimization plugins, including:
  • WP Rocket
  • WP-Optimize
  • Other commonly used WordPress caching solutions
Caching plugins often improve performance by generating and serving a pre-rendered version of a page. While this is useful for performance, serving the same cached page to every visitor can prevent Bluvia A/B Testing from displaying different Variants correctly.

For experiments where page caching would interfere with Variant delivery, Bluvia A/B Testing may disable or bypass caching on the affected pages while the experiment is running. This allows visitors to receive the appropriate Control or Variant instead of a single pre-rendered version of the page.

Caching behavior can vary depending on the caching plugin, hosting environment, CDN, and optimization settings being used.

If a Variant is not appearing as expected:
  1. Clear your WordPress caching plugin’s cache.
  2. Clear any server or hosting-level cache.
  3. Clear your browser cache or test in a private/incognito window.
  4. Check whether your caching or optimization plugin is still serving a pre-rendered version of the experiment page.
  5. Review any settings that combine, delay, defer, or minify JavaScript.
See Cache Issues and JavaScript Conflicts for additional troubleshooting steps.

CDN Compatibility

Bluvia A/B Testing is designed to work with websites that use a Content Delivery Network (CDN).
Some CDN configurations may cache pages or modify website resources in ways that affect experiment delivery or prevent recent changes from appearing immediately.
If you’re experiencing problems while using a CDN, see CDN Problems for troubleshooting guidance.

WordPress Multisite

WordPress Multisite is not currently supported.
Bluvia A/B Testing should be installed and used on a standard WordPress installation.

Free and Premium Requirements

The free and Premium versions of Bluvia A/B Testing have the same WordPress and server software requirements.
Premium provides additional testing and optimization capabilities but does not require a different WordPress or PHP environment.
For details about the features available with each version, see Free vs. Paid Plans.

Before Installing

Before installing Bluvia A/B Testing, confirm that:
  • Your website is running WordPress 6.0 or later.
  • Your server meets the PHP 8.1 and later
  • You are using a standard WordPress installation rather than WordPress Multisite.
  • WordPress, your theme, and your plugins are up to date.
Once your website meets these requirements, see Installing the Bluvia A/B Testing WordPress Plugin for installation instructions.
