Targeting Rules

Targeting Rules allow you to control who participates in your experiment.
By default, experiments are shown to all eligible visitors except logged-in users and admin traffic. Targeting Rules let you narrow your audience based on characteristics such as device type, visitor status, traffic source, geographic location, or previous behavior.
Targeting is useful when your experiment is designed for a specific audience rather than your entire website.

Device Targeting

Choose which devices should participate in your experiment.
Available options include:
  • Desktop
  • Mobile
  • Tablet
You can enable one or multiple device types depending on who you want to include.
For example, if you’re testing a mobile-specific navigation change, you may only want mobile visitors to participate.

Audience Segments

Limit your experiment based on whether someone is visiting your website for the first time or returning.
Current audience segments include:
  • New Visitors
  • Returning Visitors
This allows you to compare how different audiences respond to your experiment.

Traffic Source

Choose which acquisition channels should see your experiment.
Available traffic sources include:
  • Organic
  • Paid
  • Social
  • Referral
This can be useful when testing landing pages designed specifically for paid campaigns or comparing messaging across different marketing channels.

Behavior Targeting

Behavior Targeting allows you to include visitors based on actions they’ve already completed.
Current options include:
  • None
  • Converted
For example, you may want to display an experiment only to visitors who have already completed a conversion, allowing you to test follow-up messaging or post-conversion experiences.
Additional behavioral targeting options will be introduced in future updates.

When Should I Use Targeting Rules?

Not every experiment needs audience targeting.
If you’re testing a change intended for every visitor, you can leave the default settings unchanged.
Targeting Rules are most valuable when you’re testing experiences designed for a specific audience, such as:
  • Mobile-specific layouts
  • Paid advertising campaigns
  • Returning visitors
  • Post-conversion experiences
  • Regional promotions (coming soon)

Best Practices

For the most reliable results:
  • Keep your audience as broad as possible unless a specific audience is required.
  • Only use targeting when it supports your experiment’s objective.
  • Make sure your targeted audience receives enough traffic to produce meaningful results.
  • Review your targeting settings before launching your experiment.
Remember, the more restrictive your audience becomes, the longer it may take to collect enough data for meaningful results.

Planned Updates

Geo-Targeting

Geo-Targeting allows you to control where your experiment is shown.
At this time, Bluvia A/B Testing supports Worldwide targeting.
We’re actively working on expanding this feature to support individual country selection in a future release, making it easier to run location-specific experiments and campaigns.
