Creating a New Test

Every optimization in Bluvia A/B Testing begins with creating a new test.
Whether you’re comparing two headlines, testing a call-to-action button, experimenting with a landing page, or analyzing visitor behavior, the process follows the same workflow. You’ll choose what you want to test, configure your experiment, review your settings, and launch it when you’re ready.
This guide provides an overview of the experiment creation process. Individual settings and features are covered in more detail throughout the Creating Experiments section.

Before You Begin

Before creating a new test, make sure you have:
  • The Bluvia A/B Testing WordPress Plugin installed and activated.
  • Administrator access to your WordPress website.
  • A page, post, or WordPress element you’d like to optimize.
If you’re using Bluvia A/B Testing Premium, ensure your website is connected to your Bluvia account to access Premium-only experiment types and features

Step 1: Name Your Test

Start by giving your experiment a descriptive name.
A clear name makes it easier to organize and identify experiments later, especially as your experiment library grows.
Examples include:
  • Homepage Hero CTA
  • Pricing Page Headlines
  • Summer Promotion Banner
  • Contact Form Optimization

Step 2: Select a Test Type

After naming your experiment, you’ll choose what type of test you’d like to create and which WordPress content you want to optimize.
Different test types are designed for different parts of your website. Once you select a test type, Bluvia A/B Testing will prompt you to choose the appropriate WordPress content, such as a page, post, menu, template, or other supported item.

Quick Win Tests

Quick Win Tests are designed for fast, focused optimizations of individual website elements.
Available test types include:
  • Headline
  • Button / CTA
  • Menu
After selecting a Quick Win test, choose where you’d like to run the experiment.

Full Page Tests

Full Page Tests compare complete pieces of WordPress content.
Available test types include:
  • Page
  • Post
  • Custom Post
  • URL Redirect
After selecting a test type, choose the page, post, or custom content you want to test.

Global Tests (Bluvia A/B Testing Premium)

Global Tests allow you to optimize reusable WordPress components that appear across multiple pages.
Available test types include:
  • Templates
  • Themes
  • Patterns
  • Widgets
After selecting a Global Test, choose the template, theme, pattern, or widget you’d like to include in the experiment.

Advanced Tests (Bluvia A/B Testing Premium)

Advanced Tests provide additional flexibility for experienced users and behavioral analysis.
Available test types include:
  • Custom CSS
  • Custom JavaScript
  • Heatmaps
  • Session Recordings
Depending on the test type you select, you’ll be asked to choose the appropriate page or content where the experiment or analysis should run.
Once you’ve selected both the test type and the WordPress content, you’re ready to configure the rest of your experiment.
For a complete explanation of every available experiment type and when to use it, see Understanding Test Types.

Step 3: Configure Your Experiment

Once you’ve selected a test type, it’s time to configure your experiment.

The options available will vary depending on the type of test you’re creating, but every experiment is built around the same core components.

Variants

Create one or more variations that you’ll compare against the original version (Control). Each variant should test a meaningful change that supports your hypothesis.

Conversion Goals

Every experiment needs a conversion goal so Bluvia A/B Testing knows how to measure success. Your goal should represent the action you want visitors to complete, such as clicking a button, submitting a form, or visiting another page.

Targeting Rules

Control which visitors are eligible to participate in your experiment. You can target specific devices, user types, traffic sources, or other visitor segments.

Scheduling (Bluvia A/B Testing Premium)

Schedule experiments to start or end automatically, helping you coordinate campaigns and reduce manual management.

Experiment Settings

Additional settings help you control how your experiment runs.
These include:
  • Traffic Allocation
  • Exclusion Rules
  • Notes & Hypothesis

Every experiment doesn’t require every option. Bluvia A/B Testing automatically displays the settings that are relevant to the type of test you’re creating, helping keep the setup process as simple as possible.

Step 4: Review Your Settings

Before launching, review your experiment to ensure everything is configured correctly.
We recommend checking:
  • The experiment name
  • The selected test type
  • Your variants
  • Conversion goals
  • Targeting settings
  • Traffic allocation
Taking a few moments to review your setup can help avoid unnecessary changes after the experiment has started.

Step 5: Launch Your Test

Once you’re satisfied with your configuration, launch the experiment.
Bluvia A/B Testing will begin serving your test to eligible visitors and collecting the data needed to measure performance.
As traffic is collected, you’ll be able to review reports, compare variations, and determine which version performs best.

Understanding the Experiment Workflow

Every experiment in Bluvia A/B Testing follows the same general process:
  1. Choose what you want to improve.
  2. Select the appropriate test type.
  3. Configure your experiment.
  4. Launch the test.
  5. Monitor results.
  6. Learn from the data.
  7. Continue optimizing.
Successful optimization is an ongoing process. Each experiment helps you better understand your visitors and identify new opportunities for improvement.
